Hi,

Just to make sure I understood the license conditions correctly.

If we (a company) use this code to improve a tool that is only used inside the company and not distributed/shared outside the company in anyway then it can be used for free, correct?

Yes, you are right. GPL is 100% free for in-house use - as long as you do not distribute software in any form. And using GPL code in your tool does not force your software to be GPL forever - if you suddenly decide to distribute your tool, you can replace GPL code by something non-GPL at any moment (whether this "something" is commercial ALGLIB or something else).
