Post subject: | Numerical curvature using osculating circle |
I would like to calculate numerical curvature using the osculating circle method. I have grid based data in terms of latitude and longitude(equal distance and equal angle) in a cylindrical projection. I have contour curves on this grid connecting points of equal height(bounding box essentially). Let us assume Euclidean space. So what I do know is that the inverse of the radius of the osculating circle is the curvature. What happens when one of the contour points(small curvature flat contour line hence large osculating circle) is on the boundary of the grid and the osculating circle goes beyond the boundaries of the bounding box ? Is this allowed because the osculating circle is now drawn over points where the latitude and longitude are meaningless from a physical standpoint ? |

Hard to tell... Sorry, I am not familiar with this method, and it is not implemented in ALGLIB :( |
